On a recent trip to the Houston Zoo, we stopped outside by McGovern Lake to watch the sun set. What started as a large crowd, quickly thinned out to only a few of us taking photos as the sun dropped below the trees. The only others around were a few geese and ducks that didn’t seem bothered by the dwindling light.

Not having ever explored Hermann Park, I had never noticed this lake just off the zoo entrance, but found it on Google Maps. (It’s easy to miss if you just walk from the parking lot to the zoo entrance.) I knew the zoo closing time would coincide with the sunset and was hoping to find a place close by to try. I’ll have to visit this spot again when I’m back downtown.
