Whether fishermen come for the sport, or simply the peace, beauty and relaxation, you find yourself fishing late into the night, not wanting to leave.

TimStanley > Sugar Land Christmas
I’ve taken photos here before. It’s close to work and it has a small town charm, which is hard to find in a suburb of Houston. Like many places around the country, the Sugar Land Town Center places a large Christmas tree and lots of lights on adjoining buildings, making for a festive atmosphere. The challenge is finding it when it’s not full of people. What better opportunity than on a slow Tuesday evening and add in a lite mist and the area was almost empty. The local mall, however, was a different story.

TimStanley > The Cut-Away
The best I can guess, this is a cut-away on how planes are built. The color and structure of the wood attracted me to take the HDR sequence, but I didn’t notice any reference sign.

TimStanley > Business Christmas
No one likes to go on a business trip during the holidays. Most of us would prefer to stay home with our family and enjoy the holiday from the comfort of our recliner, not an economy seat in the back of a red eye. But if you have to go, at least there are a few nice hotels that share a little bit of the holiday spirit. This hotel lobby is elegant in its own right, but the red Christmas tree brings a bit of Christmas cheer to those travelers that migrate pass.

TimStanley > 5002 - Rolling Pride
This is the second train I found sitting all alone, right behind engine 9662. I've always felt a twinge of pride when I view one of these engines with the American flag painted on the side rolling down the tracks. You don't realize how huge these things are until you get right up next to them. A bit dusty and worn, but big and strong; kind of like America.

TimStanley > Reflecting on Christmas
Like many photographers, reflections have a special attraction that can make a photo come alive. But since I don't live close to a lake, pond or other natural attraction, I have to keep a keen eye open for rare opportunities. The reflection pool at the local Town Center provided a great chance for this Christmas photo.

TimStanley > Sunset Over Pensacola
I’ve discovered one problem I have from my limited experience shooting really nice sunsets. The sky is gorgeous so I take a few shots. Moments later, the light changes and everything looks different, so I take a few more shots. Then it happens again. A cloud moves and the sun drops. A few more shots. Then the sun touches the horizon. More shots. Finally, the sun sets and the twilight colors appear. Lots more shots. By the end of the night, I have more than I can choose from. Typically, I only want to post the best of the group, but that can be hard to choose. This might be a case where less is more, making it easier to select my favorite.

TimStanley > Morning Treat
I love the winter skies. The clouds have so much more interest and variations than summer skies. I'm not a meteorologist, but the high clouds you get during winter is enough to make me want to get up before the sun, just to see what it has in store for me. I had to pull the car over yesterday morning on the way to work to capture this with my iPhone. I only have about a half mile stretch where that is possible and the timing was perfect.

TimStanley > Three Course Lunch
The fun thing about shooting High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos is even a normal scene can look very interesting. HDR brings out details and tones that you actually see when there. It looks more "alive".
Take this shot for example. In person, the colors and textures are quite interesting. Shot with a single photo, however, it becomes bland and flat. This wall is in front of Bayou Place in downtown Houston.

TimStanley > Up in Smoke
the holidays seem like the perfect time to light the fireplace, or in warmer climates, a nice candle and enjoy the aroma and atmosphere. Just try not to think of it as your money going up in smoke.

TimStanley > The Tin Goose
The Ford Trimotor (nicknamed "The Tin Goose") was an all-metal, American three-engined transport plane that was first produced in 1925 by the companies of Henry Ford . Newer designs and Ford's losing interest in aviation caused production to end in 1933, with 199 airplanes built and flown world-wide by commercial and military aviation. I'm almost certain that Indiana Jones flew on one too.
This Trimotor hangs in the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.

TimStanley > The Wheels Half
This is the other half of the Wings and Wheels get-together each month for the Wings and Wheels at the 1940 Air Terminal Museum in Houston. In the parking lot you will find some really nice wheels, while on the tarmac, you will find some really nice wings. So whether your interest is on or above ground, there is something to catch your eye.
Get there early, so you can catch your photos without too many crowds. Your kids can watch the big commercial jets come and go, while you look at the cool stuff too.

TimStanley > Capt'n Fun
Sometimes you see something out of context and you have to blink and look again to see if you saw what you think you saw. Imagine the first time I saw a Volkswagon sitting atop a roof. Such is the case on this island shopping area in Pensacola. Souvenir shops come up with all kinds of ways to draw the customers and this tactic seems to work pretty good.

TimStanley > Holiday Glitter
We were waiting for a table last night at a restaurant and were standing by their Christmas tree. Having just my iPhone, I thought I might chance a few photos. I'm sure a few folks thought I was silly for shooting an ornament, but I thought it turned out okay.
