Bridge Over the Brazos I was driving through a Richmond, a small town southwest of Houston. I was mainly looking for new things to come back and photograph when I had my camera with me. I ran across a viewpoint of the railroad bridge over the Brazos River and had to get out and take a look. I have seen this many times from the highway, but never right by the tracks. Having only my iPhone, I couldn't resist taking a quick test shot to remind me to come back sometime.

Can You Hear Me Now?
Long before the CD, the cassette or the 8-track, there was the Dictaphone. By today’s standards, it was large and had poor audio quality, but in its day, it was the office tool to have if you were running with the big boys. In the beginning, its only competition was the vinyl record, which won for better audio quality and distribution, but for onsite recording and playback, the Dictaphone was the tool to use until magnetic tape became the standard.

Winter in Houston
It can get cold. It might even freeze once or twice, but winter in Houston is mostly just dreary. The wind will blow and it will rain, but mostly it's just an inconvenience. There has been a powdering of snow once or twice over the last twenty years, but you might have to wait that long before it happens again. I think I would enjoy living a further north, where they have four real seasons. Houston has summer and not-so-summer. Spring and fall are a few weeks that fly by too fast.

Super Slide
As far back as I can remember, the slide was always one of the top things to play on at the park. Yes, there were the swings and the jungle jim, but the slide was unique. It was the one item that stood taller than the others on the playground. If you think about it, it was the training ground for roller coasters. It was a long slow climb to the top, then you get a quick glimpse of the view from up high. You looked down with second thoughts, but you let go anyway and whoosh, down you went.
This carnival super slide can handle eight sliders at one time. At a dollar or two per trip, someone is making a lot of money.

The Engineer's View
This locomotive cab is on Union Pacific 1982. You step in through a door in the front center, up some tight stairs and the station is on the left. Right behind you is a door that leads outside down the right side of the locomotive to move steps at the rear.

Travis High School
Many of the sunsets I take are from a local high school down the road. It's a nice place to shoot, since the westward view is clear and unobstructed from signs, power lines and buildings. Most evenings, there are only a few cars in the parking lot and I am on the far side away from the cars and front entrance.

On this evening, the sky looked as pretty from the south, as it did from the west. So I grabbed my tripod and scurried over to the far side of the front entrance. Yes, I scurried. You don't really run with a tripod with your camera on top and the light was fading fast, so I scurried.

Eye in the Sky
Most major cities utilize some type of helicopter on their police force. The City of Houston's Police Department has this McDonnell Douglas MD-588E.

Evolution
Though this very large ride is called Evolution, it should be Revolution, as it revolves around the center mounting point. It's just one of many large rides you find at state fairs and large carnivals. As it revolves around the center, the riders swing in a circle on the end also. It's a great ride to help you lose weight after supper.

Dusk Between the Towers
Going back through some old photos, I thought I would revisit my first downtown Houston photowalk. One of my first sunsets was Sunset Between the Towers. Following shortly later were a few shoots of the same scene, but only darker. One interesting thing is how different items are accentuated at night. In this scene, the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church can be seen bathed in light, contrasting against the more modern buildings surrounding it.
