TimStanley > Hoi Thanh Buddhist Temple
Religious worship comes in many forms from many cultures. This Vietnamese Buddhist temple in southwest Houston is very colorful and quite a site to see in person. The simple exterior of the building doesn't prepare you for the ornate worship area where Buddha sits center stage.

When in Washington D.C., I learned that Capitol Hill, at the eastern end of the National Mall, is the center of town. Though it has never been the geographic center of the federal district, the Capitol is the origin by which both the quadrants of the District are divided and the city was planned.

The rain has cleared and the air has a new chill to it. That is what winter looks like in the southwest part of the States.
Not much snow and none if you live closer to the gulf. But you can count on a few chilly afternoons and if you're lucky, an evening light show. With the shorter days, I'm fortunate to see a few of these on the way home from work.

It's Friday evening and the lady in your life wants to go shopping. Oh boy. Just what every guy lives for.
If you have to go shopping, then at least avoid the mall if you can help it. Since it's a cool evening, a stroll around the local boutiques might be a better idea. It's more casual, less hectic and I bet there's a Starbuck's close by too.
Now don't forget to tell her how nice she looks in that new outfit you have to spring for. If you're lucky, your debit card might still have enough to buy her that caramel macchiato she wants!

TimStanley > Who Wants Seafood?
One of the joys of a vacation on the beach is all the great seafood restaurants. Many of those restaurants have their own unique character that you don't find elsewhere. A bit more colorful and a bit more relaxed, but definitely worth the price of dinner. 'Crabs' is a popular seafood restaurant on Pensacola Beach, Florida, in the shadow of their water tower painted like a big beach ball.

Planes, planes and more planes. Just when you think you've seen one of everything, you turn the corner and there's another piece of history. The National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida has one of the greatest collections of aviation history, concentrating on those flown by the U.S. Navy.

Walking through the Hone Kong Market, you find many types of stores, selling all kinds of items from the many cultures that make up Asia.

TimStanley > Traffic in the Square
One of the cool things about long exposure photography is the motion blur you get with moving objects. You never quite know what to expect until after the image is complete. Sometimes it helps the image, sometimes it's a distraction. But after you get the hang of it, you can anticipate the right moment to hit the shutter to get close to the desired effect. This is another image from the Sugar Land Town Square in front of their Marriott Hotel.

TimStanley > Ham Duck
Walking back to my car after visiting Johnson Space Center this summer, a group of ducks started stalking my friend and I. Thinking we had food I suppose, they intercepted our path and wouldn't let us advance until we presented them with something. When I pulled out my camera, this one brave duck advanced while the others retreated in disappointment. This guy stood around as if to say, okay take your best shot, then I've got to run. He was patient though while I fumbled with my settings longer than I should have and allowed me a few shots. Then he was off with his friends, seeking out some other potential contributor.

TimStanley > Acting A Little Squirrely
A trip to the zoo is always fun and as I soon discovered, a bit challenging. It seems like the smaller the subject is for the camera, the more skill and patience it takes. These little antelope ground squirrels (and I mean little, no more than 6 inches) would scamper about like big mice, only to sit still for a second or two.
Just when get the lens pointed in their general direction, they were off again, like a woman late for a shoe sale.. You had no idea which way they would turn and run either. At least you know where the shoe department is.

Sam and Friends was Jim Henson's first television show, a five-minute show that aired twice daily on WRC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C. The show ran from May 9, 1955 to December 15, 1961. In 2010, these 10 characters joined Kermit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington D.C.

TimStanley > The Boeing Aviation Hanger
Airplanes and people have a lot in common. They come in all shapes and sizes and colors and each one excels at a particular use or purpose. The Boeing Avaition Hanger at the Udvar-Hazy Center has a great collection of both commercial and military aircraft.
The long wingspan plane at the top is the Virgin Atlantic Global Flyer. The smaller (and closer) silver model in the center is the Globe Swift GC-1a and the large Lockheed 1049F-55-96, "Constellation" sits below.
